Hey ya’ll, Beary friends!
Hai semua, teman-teman Beary!
It’s time to write about our DC holiday - our favorite one! As mentioned in my previous writing, we traveled with Amtrak train from New York Penn Station to Union Station Washington DC. It was a 3 and a half hour trip, but it felt faster. We booked our tickets online from the Amtrak website after trying to book via Amtrak app a few times, but failing. Maybe there was a glitch on the app, at least the website was working fine. Anyway, the Amtrak train cost us $220 from NY to DC, return (kids under 2 always ride for free). We had our breakfast from the train’s cafe; 2 sausage, egg, and cheese muffins ($10 for two), orange juice ($3), a cup of coffee ($3.50) and pretzels ($2.50). We enjoyed our train as well as our breakfast. That answered why the time flew so fast!
Saatnya menulis tentang liburan DC kami - liburan favorit kami!

Union Station
Washington DC is relatively cheaper than NY: the hotel, the food, even a bottle of water. When we were in NY, we barely got anything for $5, but in DC a bottle of water we bought was a $1. Woo! Although a box of mixed fruit was $7, which I thought was quite expensive, but hey ho! It’s in the States, I can’t compare with Jakarta’s price. Doh!
Doh!
Day 1 in DC
After walking approximately 10 minutes from the station to our hotel, Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill, we checked in and entered our hotel room. We decided to rest for a bit, shower, and went out for a late lunch and a little shopping.

On our way to have our lunch, we decided to stop by Capitol Hill. The weather was perfectly bright; the white, enchanting building with a beautiful blue sky. I thought might as well take some pictures before walking to the restaurant.
We also stopped by National Japanese American Memorial and took a few pictures there. See one of the pictures below.
Speaking of Japanese, we chose to eat Japanese food for our late lunch: the small restaurant called Momoyama, located nearby our hotel, like 6 minutes walking distance. A Japanese woman welcomed us and served us with her warm smile. She said that they don’t have a baby chair for Izzy before we asked for it, which was fine. We brought our stroller. Daddy had to lift it up for a bit though, since there were small stairs in the entrance. It didn’t take long for us to wait until our food was served, and it was so tasty! I craved for Japanese food, and Izzy was also a happy bunny, especially when her edamame came out first after our ice tea. She really loves edamame. She also had a few bits of Daddy’s noodles. Daddy demolished his food in minutes. He definitely enjoyed them as I did. We paid $64 for all the menu, plus the tax and tips we gave.
After finishing our food and paying, we walked back to Union Station, since they have many shops there. We were looking for some baby clothes for Izzy, and I thought the H&M might have it, but they didn’t have kids section in that H&M. We moved to Uniqlo, and they also didn’t have the kids or baby section. Oh no, that was disappointing. We thought maybe we should just move on. Before leaving the station, we stopped by a Starbucks coffee shop as we walked through, bought some hot drinks, and walked out again. Izzy was out cold. Aw, my baby!
Izzy sedang tertidur lelap. Ah, sayangku!
We walked quite a bit this time, we even walked by our hotel. Last chance! If we could not find baby clothes from the next place we would go back to our hotel. Izzy probably had to wear the outfit that she has worn previously! I thought they wouldn’t be dirty anyway, although she was running out of clean clothes. We intended to buy her some new ones in DC, but it seemed like it didn’t go according to the plan.
Kami berjalan sedikit kali ini, kami bahkan berjalan melintasi hotel kami. Kesempatan terakhir!
Daddy found a Walmart department store through his GPS. Maybe we could check it out. We didn’t have much confidence, but it would be better to check. When we arrived there, they didn’t have many selections, but at least they had some. We bought tees for Izzy and some drinks and snacks, then we went back to our hotel. Resting.
Daddy menemukan department store Walmart melalui GPS-nya. Beristirahat.
Day 2 in DC
It was a new day, and a new year: 2020! We did not really ‘celebrate’ the New Year’s eve though: we were in our hotel room, having family time, drinking orange juice and snacking, then sleeping. That was why we still woke up early on our 2nd day in DC. It’s been like this since 2 years ago, when we became parents (I remember last new year’s eve, when we were in the UK, sleeping for a year, lol).
We had our breakfast at 8 AM in the hotel’s restaurant. We then walked from our hotel to some DC landmarks, such as Capitol Hill, then the Washington Monument, through the National Mall, to the Lincoln Memorial. We passed by the Korean War Memorial and Jefferson Memorial before we entered the first Museum we visited, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Capitol Hill
As we walked to the National Mall, we passed by these fancy unique cars. It seemed like they have a community gathering event in front of Capitol Hill. Nice!
Bagus!
Washington Monument
We took the last picture of the Washington Monument above when we were on our way back to our hotel. That was why it was already dark.
Lincoln Memorial
Korean War Memorial
Jefferson Memorial
This memorial was apparently under construction, we only saw it from further.
United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
This museum has been on my list for years. I was so thrilled that I finally got the chance to visit. I’ve always had a thing with World Wars, especially WWII. We spent hours in this Museum, which was needed to fully comprehend the atrocities.
We were getting hungry as we walked out of the Museum. We passed by some DC street food or food trucks, and fell for the loudest truck with Mexican music that had a tempting smell, the Mexican food! We ordered 2 burritos, plus extra tortilla and salsa dip, all for $20. They were so delish! Omagah! I’m literally drooling now.
Mereka sangat enak! Ya Tuhan! Saya benar-benar ngiler sekarang.
White House
Our last visit on that day was the White House. Unfortunately we didn’t get a good picture, these two pictures above were taken in front of the White House. We tried to take it as good as we could. It was dark and we couldn’t get any closer because of the barricades for the President’s safety, I reckon. We came back to our hotel room and I checked my iphone’s Health application: we walked more than 16 km on that day, It showed that I had 21.788 steps so far on that day. Yeah!
Ya!
Day 3 in DC
It was another museum day! So many good museums to visit, yet so little time, sadly. We had to choose one or two museums to visit for today.
We both agreed to visit the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum first. My first impression was “wow!” as we entered the main hall from the entrance.
Kami berdua sepakat untuk mengunjungi Smithsonian Air and Space Museum terlebih dahulu.
Smithsonian Air and Space Museum
I was amazed by this museum, its collection and its history. Too bad part of this museum was under renovation. We spent less than two hours in there. We started feeling peckish, so we thought it would be better to find some food first before visiting the next museum, the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. We were going to check out the café in the museum, but it was kind of depressing - a few vending machines and a tiny counter. So we went elsewhere.
We walked through the National Gallery Of Art Sculpture Garden. It was so artistic! We had brunch at the Sculpture Garden restaurant as shown on the pictures below. We paid $24.15 which was quite cheap for United States’ standard.
Kami berjalan melewati National Gallery Of Art Sculpture Garden. Sangat artistik!
National Gallery Of Art Sculpture Garden
Tips: If you want to save your money, no need to buy drinks at the restaurant, since the cold tap water is always free in the States.
After making our tummies happy, we continued to walk to the next museum. This museum had a long queue! Daddy wanted to give up when he saw the line. But Mommy begged him to stay and be patient. So we were in the line for about 30 minutes.
Smithsonian Natural History Museum
We have visited several Natural History Museums in other countries, and they are all huge, but honestly they kinda look similar now. Don’t get me wrong, the museum was amazing, and it was a good one to visit with family, especially families with kids. Izzy seemed to enjoy our visit, but Mommy and Daddy thought it was just alright, like it was nothing new.
After meandering through the 1st and 2nd floor, we thought that was enough, we decided to walk back to our hotel. We didn’t forget to buy some souvenirs as we always do when we visit museums. On our way back to our hotel, we passed by 2 huge buildings that stole our attention: Smithsonian National Art Gallery and Archives Of The United States Of America. Hopefully next time, when we come back to DC.

Of The United States Of America. Semoga lain kali, ketika kami kembali ke DC.
Archives Of The United States Of America
We continued to walk after taking some pictures. I really needed to pee as per usual. I sometimes think maybe I need to wear a big diaper due to having a tiny bladder! When we arrived at the hotel, we showered and took some rest. We had our dinner in our room that evening: we were too tired to go out. We ordered Indian food via UberEats; 1 portion of Chicken Tikka Masala, 1 portion of Chicken Palak, 2 portions of rice, 2 naan breads, all for $44.74. Happy tummy!
Kami terus berjalan setelah mengambil beberapa foto. Saya benar-benar ingin buang air kecil seperti biasa. Kami memesan makanan India melalui UberEats; 1 porsi Chicken Tikka Masala, 1 porsi Chicken Palak, 2 porsi nasi, 2 roti naan, semuanya seharga $44,74. Perut bahagia!
Day 4 in DC
It was our last day in DC. We woke up and packed our stuff, then checked out early at 10 AM, since our train back to New York was at 11:10 AM. We walked to Union Station, took away some breakfast from the well-known burger place in the States, Shake Shack. Never too early for Shake Shack burger and shake. We loved them! The buns were soft and warm, the meat was yummy and juicy, the fries were tasty, plus the shake, we ordered the Vanilla Oreo one, I wanted more! *drooling*
Kami cinta mereka! Rotinya lembut dan hangat, dagingnya enak dan juicy, kentang gorengnya enak, plus shake-nya, kami memesan Vanilla Oreo, saya ingin lagi! *ngiler*
Our last day in DC ended great. I would say we had a very good and unforgettable experience. What I liked the most was that all the Museums in DC were free! It’s such a walkable city too, which is great for chilling and exercising. We walked so far in our time there! However, we still have many places to visit on our list. Until next time DC! x
Sampai nanti DC! x
