“Just because we needed a small holiday, to get rid of the holiday blues”, said my caption on my South Korean trip’s photos on my Instagram feed, as we transited in Seoul. Indeed.
Memang.
Korean Air also provided the Pororo souvenir for kids - so cute! See the picture below.
Since it was a long-haul flight, we got 2 different meals, here was my 2nd food:
We did not get baby food for Izzy in this flight, since we didn’t know that we had to order in advance. However, we got the baby food on our next flight from Seoul to Jakarta.

We then continued to walk and saw a Korean looking building from further. This was the closest cultural building from the station. Unfortunately, the building was still closed, I guess it was because we were there too early.

“Happy tummy!” As I stroke my belly gently. We intended to walk back to the station, but on the way we stopped by at a shop that sold the popular honey butter almond, etc. A package of three cost us W18,000. We could actually buy them in Jakarta, but it’s just pricey.
The snow was eventually falling down as expected. Finally Izzy got the chance to experience her first snow! Sadly she was fast asleep in her stroller. So technically, she did not really experience it yet, but it was snowing! I tried to record them falling but my phone camera was not obvious enough to catch the snow. We walked back to the station, and took a slightly different route. We continued to take the Seoul train to the airport, and paid another W7.500 each. Our short trip was over. *sad face* Hope we will have a proper holiday in Seoul soon. We will be back! We are so grateful that our holidays went well. We are back to Indonesia safe and sound. Thanks for reading my writing! x
We deliberately chose to fly back to Jakarta from New York with Korean airlines. It took 14 and a half hours flight from NY to Seoul. All because, yes, we wanted to transit in Seoul! I got so many questions from my friends about this short trip.
“Did we need a South Korean Transit Visa to enter Seoul?”
Daddy and Izzy are British Passport holders, so both do not need South Korean visa to visit. They can enter South Korea as tourists for up to 90 days without visas. They just needed to show their onward or return tickets.
As for Mommy (Indonesian), I also did not need a transit visa to enter South Korea.
Some people do not know that for Indonesians, as long as you have a valid visa of US, Canada, Japan, Australia or New Zealand (5 countries) and you are traveling from / to either of the aforementioned 5 countries to / from a *third country via Korea, holding a confirmed onward flight ticket for departure within 30 days, and no immigration offense record, when you transit in South Korea you are eligible to enter Korea without a Korean visa for a stay of up to 30 days, or if your purpose of visit is transit.
*Third country in this context means Third Country National (TCN), is referring to individuals who are in transit and/or applying for visas in countries that are not their country of origin (i.e. country of transit), in order to go to destination country that is likewise not their country of origin. -courtesy of google search engine.

It was our first experience flying with Korean Air. First, I liked the flight attendants uniform and its color. It was a baby blue color, combined with off-white. I also just found out that the scarfs that the Korean Air stewardesses wear are the most coveted accessories in aviation. It was designed by an Italian designer, Gianfranco Ferre. So chic!
Sangat cantik!
All the flight attendants we met were also very friendly. Our first flight was smooth, we sat on the front row as expected. As we entered the airplane, we found our seats were right in the back of the business class area. All the stuff we got from the airplane were placed nicely on our seats, such as bottles of water, blankets, pillows, toothbrushes + toothpastes, and slippers! I never got slippers from other flights I flew with. Normally we got free socks. That was cute!
Biasanya kami mendapat kaus kaki gratis. Lucu!
Korean Air also provided the Pororo souvenir for kids - so cute! See the picture below.
After we settled with our belongings and stuff. We sat down on our seats. There was another young family sitting next to us. They are Korean but live in Jersey City. They were so friendly too. Their daughter is 3 months older than Izzy, but they had a baby bassinet installed in front of them. She said she requested it in advance, as well as the baby food. I thought the baby bassinet is too small for Izzy’s age or size now. It seemed more convenient to get it installed though. Their baby was roughly the same height as Izzy, or maybe just a little bit shorter. I thought I should follow her to request the bassinet for our next flight. By the way, that Korean family were so kind to us too. I had quite a lot of conversations with the Mom. They even offered to share the baby food for Izzy. Bless them!
Berkatilah mereka!
I held Izzy on my arms during the flight for hours. I couldn’t feel my arms and got the pins and needles often. I had to change my position every time.
The flight attendants were always on hand to help, and tried to be nice to Izzy when they got time. The range of food and drink was good, and Daddy enjoyed the beer. When it came to food, there were the standard A and B options, plus the C option of Korean Rice. Here was the food I got, the white thing with a red lid that looked like a toothpaste was actually a hot sauce.
The first food I had:
Makanan pertama yang saya makan:
Since it was a long-haul flight, we got 2 different meals, here was my 2nd food:
Sausage and omelette. Yum! I liked that they provided some fresh pineapples as the dessert.
Sosis dan omelet. Yum! Saya suka mereka menyediakan beberapa nanas segar sebagai hidangan penutup.
We did not get baby food for Izzy in this flight, since we didn’t know that we had to order in advance. However, we got the baby food on our next flight from Seoul to Jakarta.
There was a bit of a drama during our second flight though. Mommy and Daddy got our seats separated. The staff at the airport said it seemed like so many family with kids, so they couldn’t find us seats next to each other in the front row. Mommy still got the seat on the first row next to the alley, since we have ordered a baby basinet for Izzy, but Daddy had to sit on the second row, but in the middle seat between two other people. That was inconvenient: I needed Daddy’s help sometimes, it would be harder if he sat on the back seat between people. Plus I don’t feel comfortable to breastfeed Izzy if another man was sitting next to me.
When the passengers who got seats next to Mommy finally showed up, we then realized they were not family with kids, in fact they were 2 tall adults (all men), they were not even family or friends. The other one was so friendly, as soon as he saw Izzy, he couldn’t stop trying to get her attention by making noises; he was smiling at me and Izzy.
I looked for the flight attendants, and found one of them behind the curtain, then I informed of our situation. I know it’s so unfair if we ask the friendly man in his 60’s who sat next to me to move and swap seat with Daddy. I knew that most men especially the tall ones would like to sit in the front row with more space for legs. Therefore, I asked that stewardess to swap my seat with a big guy who sat behind me, next to Daddy. I preferred not to use the baby basinet, but sit next to my Husband. But the stewardess chose to politely negotiate with the friendly old man who sat next to me first. Oh no! I knew she meant well, she probably thought it’s best if my husband move to sit next to me, so we could use the baby basinet for Izzy. They spoke in Korean which I did not understand. The old man seemed reluctant to move unless she could find him another seat with the leg space too. She walked to the back area which I assumed she was looking for another seat with more leg-space for the man, and coming back to him, shaking her head that showed she could not find it. She then tried to talk to the big guy behind my seat. That guy did not mind to swap with me as I expected. Of course, he was a big guy, and he would get a better seat with more leg room. Daddy and I ended up sitting next to each other on the second row. No baby basinet, no problem (only pins and needles in both of Mommy’s hands due to holding Izzy for hours, lol).

WHEN IN SEOUL
We arrived at Seoul Incheon International Airport in the early morning, it was around 5:15 AM. We took a train from the airport to Seoul station, in the city center. We paid W7.50 each. It took around 45 minutes to our destination. The sky was still a bit dark, and the weather was freezing cold. It was -3, but felt like -11. I had to wear my beanie and gloves. According to the iPhone’s weather prediction, it would be snowing that day. Exciting!
Seru!
We walked from the Seoul train station to Sungnyemun Gate Namdaemun, then went to the famous Myeongdong area. When we were on our way, I saw a shop called Lina’s Paris. Oh it‘s my name! I asked Daddy to take a picture of me in front of the bright green sign as shown on the picture below.

We had 9-hour transit in Seoul, might as well check the city and its food. First thing to do was find a Korean restaurant that had a high tripadvisor rating nearby. We found Sunseon Seolnongtang resto! It’s so hard to memorize the name of this restaurant. We were lucky, when we arrived we did not have to wait in the same long queue as the other people who got there after, waiting for empty tables. Anyway, the food was so delish! We paid for 38,000 Won for all. We want to come back again!
Ngomong-ngomong, makanannya enak sekali! Kami membayar 38,000 Won untuk semuanya. Kami ingin kembali lagi!
“Happy tummy!” As I stroke my belly gently. We intended to walk back to the station, but on the way we stopped by at a shop that sold the popular honey butter almond, etc. A package of three cost us W18,000. We could actually buy them in Jakarta, but it’s just pricey.
"Perut bahagia!"
